My morning walk today

Friday evening I went for a walk on a nearby bike path and saw all these wonderful wild flowers and berries. Of course, I had not brought my camera. Silly me. So I got out this morning before the sun was very high (or hot) and took pictures. You can click on the picture to enlarge it.

This one above is an experiment with zooming while taking the picture. I needed a tripod. It was in my trunk about a quarter mile away.

Milkweeds - A memory from childhood

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sunday as I was driving along I kept seeing these white cottony things growing in the fields.  I couldn't figure out what they were but I decided they would make a great picture.  Kind of made me think of what cotton might look like.  Finally my curiosity got the best of me and I stopped at this field.

When I realized what it was, I was immediately taken back to my childhood when we had these growing in our field.  I have not seen these in a hundred years at least.   When they are still green and you break them open you get a sticky white milky substance all over your hands.  That would be the reason they are called milkweeds.

Once they dry they are so pretty.  Many people use the pods in floral arrangements once the seeds have all blown out.

What happened to the weather?

Maybe this is what they mean by global warming although last week I didn't believe it. Last week we had snow and temps in the teens. This morning when I walked out the door at 6AM, it was 54 degrees. It is 62 now at 8:30PM. It was 64 I think today which set a record. We are under a tornado watch now with serious rain forecast during the night. More like April or May weather. The snow is all gone except for remains of a pile here and there. Now I like the warm weather but this is just not good for our part of the country.

Tonight is the BCS National Championship. Louisana State University(2) vs Ohio State(1). Ohio scored a TD on their first possession. I'm thinking this is going to be a good game. Hopefully I can stay awake.

Do you ever come to the point when you just can't stand your hair a minute longer? Today was the day. Luckily I was able to get in for a dip and clip. Feels much better and looks even better yet. But I sure hate to put out the money. I keep thinking I should learn to do it myself but after reading the boxes, it scares me. I guess I'll continue to pay the price.

I think this is not really a flower. More of a weed. It is one of the last "flower" pictures I took this year. I was driving down a road I had never been on before and saw these on the side of the road. It was one of those trips when I had my camera and was looking for some pretty Fall foliage. I just happened to see these along side the road. It has become one of my favorite photos.

Bible reading is going well. My daily goal is 5 chapters a day. It is day 7 and I finished Genesis 35 this morning.

I think I'll sign off. We are having a really loud thunder storm with some lightening. Not a good time to be on the computer.
